Softball Scare
So...softball has been going good. My team has won 3, lost 1. Last night was our first loss. It was a very interesting loss. First off, our pitcher got hit in the mouth. I saw the whole thing happen and it made me cringe because i have had my front teeth knocked out and had many surgeries on them. Luckily, she is fine. Her lip split open but thats about it. It only gets worse from there.... our team (Red Sox) were up to bat, p.s. we we're playing American Fork so it was intense. So the girl in front of me is up to bat, i am on deck. She hits a fast pitch line drive to 3rd. The 3rd basemen goes to catch it in the air and it knicks her glove and bounces and hits her right in the head. Of coarse the noise was enough to know something was wrong. It was the loudest cracking noise i've ever heard. When i say, the girl that was up to bat hit a fast pitch line drive, i mean it was FAST. The 3rd basemen immediately fell to the ground and was unresponsive and bleeding all over. I hurried and took of my batting helmet and ran over because i am a Certified First Responder. She had split her forehead open about 3 inches. I was treating her for shock and trying to control the bleeding but the dang umpire didnt know what to do and made me leave the field, the umpire did not know what to do. I must say, i am VERY PEEVED at their emergency prepardness plan. Anyway, we called 911 and it took fire rescue 10 minutes to get there and the ambulance 20 minues. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I dont blame the ambulance but i blame the ballpark, the should have a plan when emergencies happen and they should know what to do. In Pleasant Grove when we play the Fire Dept. is usually at the fields anyway and the ambulance could get there in 5 mins. The girl who got hit became conscious and seemed to be okay. They took her in the Ambulance but i'm sure she is alright. She did have a black and blue face and a huge gash in her head. I feel really bad for her. It was a total accident but it would've helped if we could've gotten the help there faster. It was a scary thing. Anyway, the game does go on...awkwardly enough. I was up to bat next...after that. Do you think i wanted to hit? No! It made us all pretty scared to go out and play. The same type of thing happened to me last year and i had a slight concussion. This was a bad one tho, this type of thing happens a lot but usually not this bad. I am glad the girl is alright. Anyway, we ended up losing, which they totally deserved to win after all, their team mate had to go to the hosptial, talk about taking one for the team. It was a scary incidence but i am glad the girl is okay. May i encourage us all, to know what to do when there is an emergency! Besides that game...things have been going well and i am enjoying playing!
