Meet Rhonda, the Honda. My new scooter! Being a 1984 she is new to me, old to the world. She is pretty rare, only being made for one year. I have been wanting a scooter since last summer. Two reasons I wanted a scooter; 1- Save on gas money. Between school and work, I go to provo almost everyday of the week and gas is outrageous! I almost work just so I can drive to work. 2- Fun! I love riding on motorcycles, it's such a fun time!
I have been checking ksl almost weekly since about March but being the broke college student that I am, I didn't have the money to afford most of them. The ones that I could afford were usually some strange brand that I've never heard of and needed work. The work part isn't the problem-my dad can fix about any motorcycle/scooter, but he is not a fan of off brand motors. One day at the very end of April, when I had about given up on the scooter idea I was driving home and on the side of the road was a old, junky looking scooter for sale for $150. I was sold. I had my dad come look at it with me and because it was a Honda, he gave me the approval. So I bought it. It was not running at the time and needed some work.
After buying some new parts and putting some cash into it (still the total $ is cheaper than anything I could have bought on ksl!), it started right up! I have to thank my dad because without him, it wouldn't be running! It needed some serious cleaning up because it had left over sticky stuff all over it due to stickers. With some scrubbing and waxing, it looks pretty good for being 28 years old!
It took about a month total to get it running perfectly and get it cleaned up. So after an almost-fight with the mean lady at the dmv (whole different post about that fun experience), I got Rhonda licensed and registered. She doesn't go too fast, only 40 so I'm still a little nervous about driving on state street being able to barely go the speed limit. Do not fear, I am buying a helmet. Working in the ER, I definitely have seen what happens to people who crash on motorcycles and scooters. I will be purchasing a helmet and it will probably cost me as much as the scooter did! It will be worth it though.
She's not the best looking scooter out there, but I sure love it anyway! Next year: hot pink motorcycle! I have a picture of Rhonda "before" we worked on her but for some reason technology isn't working in my favor and it's not wanting to upload to the computer. I'll upload Rhonda before her makeover some other time. Hope you all are enjoying summertime!
