Code Talk

I love my friends. We may be immature but I don't care. We may be regressing instead of growing up but I just don't care. We laugh, we laugh a lot and that is really all that matters. I love that we can have a whole conversation and people will think they know what we're talking about but really, we're talking about something entirely different. We have a code, it's like a second language. The best thing is, we don't even try to talk in our code, it just comes natural. Friends are very important. Some people have friends that they never talk to after high school. We're not those kind of friends. We're like family and we always will be.
The pictures that are posted are just of Katie, Caecee, and I at a club neon dance party. I have more friends that I love just as equally and I'm writing about all of them in this post but these pictures were just the most convenient to post. I love all of your guts girls ;) When we go dancing, there are often creepy guys that try to dance with you... or I should say try to dance "on" you. I love that as these guys are grabbing us where we'd preferably not like to be grabbed that I can count on my friends to push the creepy guy away and tell him off. We stick up for each other and I like that. I often tell my friends that they are the best friends anyone could ask for because I probably wouldn't dare be as weird as I am with them around anyone else. I mean that in a good way. Point being, I love my friends, I love our code talk, I love how we have each other's backs, I love that we laugh hysterically all the time, I love that we're the biggest nerds ever and we just don't care. :)

Oh so glamorous.

We like to think that we're gangsta's.

Just because I'm quiet. . .

I'm a quiet person. . . I guess. I beg to differ but this is what people tell me. I think if you really know me and know me well, then you know I am in no way, shape, or form a "quiet" person. I'm writing this blog post to clarify. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I'm not listening. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I'm snooty. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean that I don't care. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean that I don't like you. I'm also much more quiet in person than over text, email, etc. I don't know why that is. Shame on my generation and my horrid communication skills.

Have you met my brother? If you have, you know exactly what I'm saying when I say, he talks, he talks a lot, really a lot (I love ya bro). The whole time growing up my brother did enough talking for the both of us and he still does. When you grow up around that, you just get used to not getting a word in. I'm a people watcher. I'd rather watch and listen than be the one talking. The biggest reason that I am quiet is because 85% of the time I open my mouth I say the wrong thing. I end up offending people, causing misunderstandings, etc. Hardly ever does something come out of my mouth how I meant it to come out. After so long of opening my mouth and having the wrong thing come out, I just learned to shut my mouth.

I'm not saying that I like these qualites, because I don't. I'm working on my communication skills. But just because I'm quiet doesn't mean that I don't like being around you or that I'm disinterested in the conversation. My mind goes much faster than my mouth. My main flaw is my quietness. Okay, not my MAIN flaw but definietly one of my flaws. I think after you get to know me really well, say maybe 5 years. No, just kidding, but after you get to know me I really don't think I'm a quiet person. Depending on the situation. Point of this post being, just because I'm quiet doesn't mean that I don't like you or that I'm not interested in the conversation. This is so not the case. I'm just quiet, give me a few chances and before you know it I'll be talking your ear off. I'm working on it. Just remember, just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I'm listening. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I'm snooty. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean that I don't care. Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I don't like you. Etc, etc, etc. I just thought I would clarify on my blog for everyone! I don't want to offend anyone because of my quiet-like behavior! :)

The Blind Side-the real people behind the true story!

If you haven't seen the movie "The Blind Side", you need to. I like movies but I'm not big on them. This movie, I'm big on it. I thought it was a great story. It teaches great lessons and it also has funny parts. If you don't know, it is based on a true story. If you've seen the movie, at the end it shows pictures of the real NFL rookie, Michael Oher and his family.
I recently had the opportunity to hear the real life (not the actresses) mother and sister of Michael Oher (who the movie, "The Blind Side" is about) speak at uvu. They talked about how the movie came about, how true it is (they said the storyline stays true to what really happened), and about their real life experience of how they took this boy in. It was a very inspiring speech. The daughter Collins, mostly talked about the movie and how it came about. She said it just happened. They had no intentions of it becoming a book and then a movie. The mother, Leigh Anne Tuohy, spoke about how to change lives, not judge, etc. If I could sum up all of what she talked about, I would. It would just take too long. Her main point was not to judge people and to reach out to people. She said if we all reached out to someone in our lives then this world would be a much better place. They then answered questions from the audience. They were very "normal" people. She said that now that football season is over, Michael is now at home with the rest of the family, living a very normal life. Her little boy in the movie, SJ is now 16 and she said that they portrayed him perfectly in the movie. All in all, it was a fun experience to hear the "real" people talk. It is such a great movie, if you haven't seen it, go see it. It is by far my favorite movie.
Caecee and I went and listened to Collins and Leigh Anne Tuohy speak (daughter, mom). They were both great speakers and very "real" people. The mother was a absolute hoot to listen to. If you've seen the movie, Sandra Bullock plays her part perfectly. They said that Bullock studied the family and are now good friends. But she plays the mother perfectly. . . she is just like she is in the movie, in real life. We had a perfect seat. There were so many people there that they had to open the wall of the grand ballroom to the hall so people could stand in the hall. It was crazy. But Caecee and I were right up front! We had to stand but we were leaning up against the wall at the end of the front row! What a fun experience it was! It was even on the news...

Above is the link to ksl.com with a little clip of the speech. If you go to the link and you look really close, you can see Caecee and I. We are straight across, Caecee is wearing black and I am on her right side (looking at the picture, I am on the left) wearing white. I'm not the tall skinny guy wearing white that is next to Caecee, I'm on the other side, I'm the one that is shorter than Caecee. Just look for the red hair, you'll see us. Anyway, all in all, it was a really great opportunity to hear them speak. I will now be much more aware. . . not to judge, and most importantly, reach out to others!!!

The real family that inspired the movie, "The Blind Side"!

The real family.
My picture of Collins and Leigh Anne Tuohy.

I couldn't get the camera to work with the lighting...but I tried!

Guilty Pleasure

Hi, my name is Amber and I am a "bacheloraholic" (the t.v. show). I am so ashamed to admit it but yes, I am addicted to the show "The Bachelor". I'm not much of a televison watcher, I'd rather do anything that is active. Although I do have a few shows that I are "must sees" for me and one of those is The Bachelor/Bachelorette. Like I said, I'm not a huge t.v. person. You'll rarely find me in front of the televison unless I have something specific to watch. I don't know why I like The Bachelor... seriously, it's the dumbest show ever. Totally dramatic, probably rigged, one person gets to date 25 people at once, unrealistic, etc. Yet, I'm addicted. It sucks you in and then you must watch to see who "wins". I'm so mad at myself that I like the show. I really do think it is the most ridiculous, stupid show but I watch it. It is in fact, my guilty pleasure. This season's bachelor is definitely "hubba, hubba". He is very down to earth and real (well, as real as you can be on a reality t.v. show, oh the irony) and he is most definitely hot! Some of the girls on the show, I'd just like to slap. So immature and desperate. There are a few "real" girls. I find myself yelling at the t.v. and getting worked up over the drama that takes place on the show. Pathetic. I know. Don't judge, we all have our "guilty pleasures". I hate to admit that I watch The Bachelor and Bachelorette because I hardly watch t.v. and when I do, I watch this trash!?! Yes I do and I have no idea why!!! It is ridiculously stupid but also entertaining. It is getting pretty close to the "final rose ceremony"--official bachloraholic talk, I told you, I'm addicted. There are only a few episodes left we'll see who wins. I'm rooting for Tenley, all of the other girls really bother me, if I was on the show, I'd take my earings out and take them down. See, here I go getting sucked into the drama! I am a closet watcher... I hate to admit that I watch the show because as I have already stated, I think the show is extremely stupid. Yet, I watch almost ever week, when I miss it, I watch it a few days later online. The first step toward recovery is recognizing that you have a problem, right!?!
