Disclaimer: This post is deeper than the usual and it is religious. Not trying to offend anyone with my religious talk but to be honest-I don't really care what religion you are, this post speaks truth! :)
I think the hardest lesson to be learned while growing up is about disappointment. You have to learn that you will disappoint yourself-continuously. But even harder than that. . . is that those that you think will never disappoint you unfortunately, will.
Of course, we are all human and we all make mistakes. I can handle mistakes but I'm talking about more than mistakes, I'm talking about complete change in character. I can handle disappointment from those that I look up to, if they get back up. When you fall down, you get back up. But what is almost impossible for me to accept is when someone does a complete 180, and doesn't get back up. When someone who has taught you so much and then they go against the very things that they taught you. It really makes you question a lot of things. It hurts, and it fills me up with an extreme amount of anger and sadness.
Without going into too much detail and protecting other's privacy, I've been really struggling with this the past couple of weeks and especially the past couple of days. I began to feel like everyone and their dog was letting me down, leaving me in the dust. Then I talked to a dear friend this morning who has yet to let me down and we had a really good conversation about disappointment from those that you think are your superheroes. She told me the following:
"It stinks, no way around it, it just stinks. And it hurts-can't make it not. But this is why the Lord is our rock, our Redeemer. He is going nowhere. He does NOT change, and He will never let you down. And even those that you are so close to hurt you. . . they will get back up, it just might not be in this life. But they will get back up. So wait for them and try not to let their mistakes jade your memory of all the good that they have influenced in your life."
After she told me that, I felt so much better! I believe that some people come into are lives and walk out as if nothing happened, but there are some that come into our lives and change it and you feel that feeling like maybe it's deeper than just a "coincidence". Well- it is more than a coincidence, and I'm not going to let those people walk out of my life. No matter what! It seems like such a simple answer. . . and it's not simple. It still hurts and I'm still disappointed but there is hope. Hope for me because I do know that Christ isn't going anywhere, and I can always count on Him. Hope for those that disappoint me, because I know that they will get back up. And I will be waiting. . . and so will Jesus!
Now that my friends, that is truth.
